Super-Stories 2023 Recap

 

In 2023 Super-Stories launched its Makers Space located at 2 Chatham Street, Kinderhook NY. The makers space was created to host workshops, events and art related projects for the community of Kinderhook and beyond. Additionally we painted murals, held workshops and moved our organization forward all while having our first baby!

Project Breakdown and Impact

8 Drop in Sessions at the Makers Space, 11 individual school/organization murals, 6 educational workshops, 6 private parties, Open Studio event, guest artist event.

 

• Workshop - Ramp Building and Skateboarding Class, January 2023.
  In Partnership with Eco ToolShed and The Basilica.
  Taught local youth how to build ramps and skateboard.
  20 Attendees.

• Mural - Woodlawn Elementary School, Schenectady NY, February 2023. 

  5 days in school with a brainstorming workshop and 4 days of painting. 

  Painted two murals and 1 logo in the hallways of the school.

  Worked with 400+ students.

•  Mural/Workshop - Draper Middle School, Schenectady, NY, April 2023.

  1 night workshop for the school’s open house night.
  Created a “Notebook Page” with three pieces of plywood and invited students and their families to write messages and draw on them with paint markers. 

  Worked with +150 students and family members.

• Mural - North Albany Middle School, Albany NY, April 2023.

  5 days in school during April break with 1 workshop brainstorming day.

  Painted 2 murals in their lunch room.

  Worked in partnership with the Albany Center Gallery.

  Worked with 6 students.


• Mural - Ben Franklin Elementary, Indiana, PA, May 2023.

  5 days in school with brainstorming workshop and 4 days of painting.

  The mural was created on POLYTAB and adhered to the exterior window panels of the garden.

  Worked with 400+ students and mentored 3 high school students.


• Workshop -Ben Franklin Elementary, Indiana, PA, May 2023.

  1 day in school training on the POLYTAB mural method.

  Worked with 3 high school students and 5 local Art teachers.

• Mural - Leeds Elementary, Leeds, MA, May 2023.

  5 days in school with a brainstorming workshop and 4 days of painting. 

  Painted a large scale mural on the exterior entrance of the building.

  Worked with 400+ students.


• Workshop - Wassaic Project, Wassaic, NY, June 2023.

  1 day Spray Painting and Sign Painting Workshop.

  Worked with 100+ community members.


• Mural - Allen Street Campus, Rutland, VT, June 2023.

  5 days in school with brainstorming workshop and 4 days of painting.

  Painted a large scale mural in their skatepark facility.

  Worked with 30 students.


• Workshop - Allen Street Campus, Rutland, VT, June 2023.

  1 day Spray Painting Workshop.


• Mural - Leeds Elementary, Leeds, MA, June 2023.
  Playground mural painted for Leeds Elementary.
  Worked with 5 teachers.


• Workshop - Kinderhook Memorial Library, Kinderhook, NY, June 2023.

  1 day PRIDE lawn sign making workshop.

  Worked with 30 community members.


• Mural - Keane Elementary School Mural, Schenectady, NY, July 2023.

  4 days in school during summer with 1 day of brainstorming and 3 days of painting.

  Painted large scale mural on the exterior of the school.

  Worked with 50 students.


• Mural - Community Action, Kingston, NY, October 2023.

  3 Days of painting in partnership with the O+Positive Festival.

  Worked with 30 students and three schools.

Maker Space Project Breakdown

• Open Studios Event - In conjunction with the Kinderhook memorial Library Fundraiser.

  Open Studios event Saturday and Sunday in April.

  Had around 200 community members attend.


• Free Drop in Makers Sessions - 8 free drop in maker sessions in conjunction with the Saturday Farmers Market in Kinderhook, from 10am-12pm.

  Had about 150+ attend in total.


• Summer Camp Workshops - In partnership with the Kinderhook's youth summer camp.

  Hosted the camp 2 times in our makers space and 1 time as guests in their space.

  Worked with 30 students.


• Private events/rentals - Held 4 birthday parties, 2 private rentals.

  During the private birthday parties we had arts based educational workshops.

  1 Private rental was a print making party for adults. Worked with 20 adults

  1 Private rental was a gingerbread house making party. Rented the space, 8 children total.


• Guest Artist - Held a free “Robot Making” workshop with Guest artist from Sideways Art.

  Had 20 participating children.


• Candlelight Night - Held a card making event during Kinderhook's Candle Light Night in partnership with the town of Kinderhook.

  Community members could make their own cards out of various materials.

  Worked with 150+ community members.


• Drawing Club - Hosted our first monthly drawing club from 6-8pm on the first Thursday of the month (December).

  Sponsored by Liquid Death and Jack’s Abbey Beer.

  Had 8 attendees.
